Last night I found myself going through some old photos from a few years ago. Not from any jobs, but just from some weekend adventures back while I was studying and first starting to take photography seriously. While I was fishing through the archives, I really started to think about how I use to shoot all the time and always have something to share after each shoot no matter how good or bad (at least at the time I didn’t think it was bad). It really hit me that now that this is my job and a massive part of my life, I’ve become quite critical with myself, instantly dismissing shots that aren’t β€œgood” in my opinion, and looking past the finer details and more importantly, the story behind these images. I really thought about this when looking at this image, and going back, I love this. Now I’m wondering why I never used it. Anyway, long story short, whilst it might not always be good to look back, I think it’s good to just slow down and think about the excitement you felt in moments like these before flicking past them. And for me, I aim to be less critical when it comes to my passion. So while I eagerly wait for winter and hopefully lots of snow, I’m going to be finding more gems like this in the archives to get me excited.

Yesterdays hiking mission through the forest of Kahurangi was just magical ✨ There was so much bird life aswell it was crazy! This one (not so shy) bird in particular was hopping around behind me as it followed me for quite a few hours during the hike, it was hilarious! Have you got any funny hiking moments?! Let me know down in the comments πŸ˜‚ @sonyalpha @docgovtnz #kahurangi #nationalpark
